Work & Career
Engineering leadership, SRE, and performance. Key accomplishments + how I work.
I'm an engineering leader at Runwise ensuring the reliability, performance, and scalability of a climate-tech platform managing real-time energy optimization for 8,500+ buildings. Before Runwise, I was senior SRE at 37signals building resilient, no-cloud solutions for HEY, Basecamp, and ONCE, senior manager of SRE at Realtor.com, and lead performance engineer at Cox Media Group. I've led efforts in web performance optimization, reliability and operational health, observability, and building teams that do great work. I've built and managed teams remotely for over 10 years and love it.
Key Accomplishments
My Career Journey
Engineering Manager, Site Reliability
Leading reliability and scalability for a real-time energy management platform serving 8,500+ buildings. Building observability capabilities, defining SLOs/SLIs, and collaborating across hardware, backend, and frontend teams.
Senior Site Reliability Engineer
Key contributor to AWS-to-on-premise migration saving $1.9M annually. Developed load, front-end performance budget, and health endpoint testing frameworks. Led DDoS defense blocking 97% of 840M requests. Established disaster recovery protocols.
Senior Manager / Staff Engineer, SRE
Built and mentored remote SRE team achieving 99.995% uptime. Optimized CDN architecture for 85% offload and 40% cost reduction. Championed Core Web Vitals a year before Google's SEO rollout.
Lead Performance Engineer → Solutions Architect → Dev Manager
Led SRE team optimizing 100+ web services with 50% backend reduction and 40% cost savings. Managed a front-end development team. Architected high-traffic solutions across major U.S. markets.
My Approach
Keep It Simple
Keep it simple to keep it fast. Complexity is debt: code, process, communication. The best solution is usually the one with the fewest moving parts.
Performance is UX
Reliability and speed aren't just infra metrics. They're how people experience trust in what you've built.
Measure, Then Move
Small iterations provide clarity. Measure before, during, and after, even small changes. Metrics and feedback inform the next move, not assumptions.
Durable Documentation
If it's not written down, it didn't happen. Runbooks, postmortems, and decision records that future-us can actually use.
Culture Over Code
Technical problems often need cultural solutions. Tooling alone won't fix a broken process. Alignment, communication, and shared ownership will.
Bridge the Gap
Connecting technical execution to human outcomes, across teams, orgs, and the gap between "it works" and "it works well."
Good Enough Ships
Perfection is the enemy of good enough. Jump in, iterate, ship. The first version teaches you what the second version needs.
Pay It Forward
Share what you've learned. Mentoring, meetups, open documentation. The best teams and communities are built by people who give back what they've gained.
Take the Harder Path
No shortcuts, no heroics. Build calm systems with safe defaults that don't depend on any one person being awake. The harder path is the more durable one.
